Colleen Mooney
Sailing Director
Colleen Mooney hails from Cleveland but has been a summer resident of Put-in-Bay all her life. She and her family have been involved with PIBYC and I-LYA for decades. Colleen learned to swim and sail through PIBYC/PIBCSS programs, and eventually spent many summers teaching sailing for PIBCSS, as well. A passionate water enthusiast, Colleen loves to swim and sail and continues to race competitively when she can.
In her own words:
am very excited as we begin planning for the upcoming summer swimming and sailing season. I look forward to seeing familiar faces, meeting many new ones, and preparing for another great season on the water.
Our ultimate goal is to teach kids to appreciate and respect the water around them, while they develop their skills and learn valuable lessons.
Thank you to everyone who continues to support this program and the children and families who participate in it. We could not do it without you!

Madeline Pugh
Swimming Director
Lead Instructor
Madeline Pugh is a lifelong, year-round island resident. During the remaining months of the year, Madeline works full-time as a preschool teacher at Put-in-Bay School, as well as a realtor. As a child, she spent her summers immersed in the swim and sail programs offered by PIBCSS. Madeline has a deep passion for working with children, and her love of the water and island life makes her an excellent fit for the swim director role.
In her own words:
I am so excited to be part of the swim program and am already looking forward to the season ahead. I look forward to working with swimmers of all ages and seeing the progress they will make this summer. As we plan for the upcoming season, I’m excited to build a great team of instructors who will be ready to jump into summer, helping teach new swimming skills and strengthen existing ones.”
Our ultimate goal is to ensure that children are safe in and around the water. We want every student to have the skills needed to keep themselves safe if they find themselves in a difficult situation, and to be prepared to help others when needed. We plan to accomplish this while having lots of fun along the way.
Thank you to everyone who continues to support and contribute to this program. We hope to see both familiar and new faces this season!
